Fund for sick baby reaches £400,000 – but another £800,000 is needed

21st March 2017

A couple’s appeal for help raising cash for their sick baby son has become one of the biggest campaigns of its kind.

Postman Chris Gard and Connie Yates, of Bedfont, west London, want to raise £1.2 million to fund treatment in America for seven-month-old son Charlie.

They have launched an appeal on the GoFundMe website and raised more than £400,000. But they have just two weeks to raise £800,000.

A GoFundMe spokesman said only two campaigns have raised more in the two years it has operated in the UK.

Specialists at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London say it is time to stop providing life-support treatment to Charlie, who was born on August 4.
